Celebrations
Anyone who knows me, knows I love to plan and throw parties. So it was a very natural thing for me to become an Event Planner. I am truly at my happiest when I am in the planning stages of a major event, either my own or for hire, it is the same enjoyment. I am the self proclaimed “Queen of Theme”. I gotta have a theme, and usually costumes are involved. Any reason is a good enough reason to get together with friends. I just know my mission in life is to have fun, and I can’t wait for fun to come to me, so I create my own.
Early in our marriage, Doug and I took a personality test. The question was “Work is ________”. There were four answers to chose from. Doug’s response was “Work is a most productive way to spend one’s time” (red trait). Mine was “Work is a necessary evil, much less inviting than play” (yellow trait). From the very beginning, Doug knew he was in for trouble. I have been planning our active social life ever since.
Pick a holiday, any holiday, I’ve thrown a party for it. Whether it be sponsored by my church, or given at my own house, I’ve thought of games for it, made invitations for it, and cooked the food for it. I’ve been the Cruise Director at a Love Boat party, the Coroner at a Murder Mystery party, the Hula Dancer at a luau, a Billy Idol groupie at an MTV Awards Night party, the Candle Maker at a Back to Bethlehem party, and even threw a Halloween party in a country that had no idea what Halloween was. The list goes on and on.
When teaching someone how to plan their own a special occasion or event, I use the analogy of a chef. Pretend you are this chef. You first choose with whom to share the meal (guest list). Next, you must decide on a menu (event) and research the recipes (details). Then you enter the kitchen (location) and use your favorite tools (photographer, caterer, etc.) to get the job done.
I never feel more alive than when the next event is just around the corner. The central part of my planning is always what food and activities will be shared with my guests. For the food portion, stay right here. For activities, see the website below.
One thing I have found essential at all of the above mentioned parties are the finger foods that can be snacked on constantly throughout the entire event. And the most successful snack food of all time is of course anything you can dip. So following, you will find some of the best dip ideas around.
