Homemade Caramels
Once You Make These, You’ll Never Buy Caramel from the Store Again:
So Smooth! Just the right amount of sweetness! Use to make turtles or ice cream sauce. Very versatile.
Ingredients
- 1 cup butter
- 1 lb. brown sugar
- dash of salt
- 1 cup corn syrup
- 1 can sweetened condensed milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1 cup walnuts, chopped (optional)
Step by Step Instructions
Step 1
Melt butter in saucepan. Add brown sugar, salt and syrup. Gradually add milk. Stir constantly over medium high heat until mixture reaches “firm ball” stage. This is when the caramel holds together when dropped into cold water.
Step 2
Remove from heat, then add vanilla and nuts. Pour mixture into a greased jelly roll pan (cookie sheet with sides is fine) and let chill.
Step 3
Cut in small squares and wrap individually in wax paper.
