Ice Bowl

For that Elegant Touch:

This serving bowl made from ice adds a certain elegance to your table.  Though you may serve any ice cream within, my favorite is strawberry for it’s color and mild flavor.  I believe it matches the flower theme perfectly.

Ingredients

2 metal bowls, one that nests nicely in the other
24 ice cubes
cold water
edible flowers
strawberry ice cream

Edible flower options:

Dianthus         Nasturtiums      Roses
Daylilies          Pansies            Borage
Geraniums       Violets

Step by Step Instructions

Step 1

Cover bottom of large bowl with ice cubes.  Arrange flowers between chunks of ice.  Place smaller bowl inside and put a heavy, freezable object inside small bowl to use as a weight.  I like to use a bag of frozen vegetables. Fill the sides with remaining ice cubes and arrange more flowers between them.  Fill bottom bowl with water an inch from the top.  Put in freezer until solid.

Step 2

To remove the metal bowls, fill small bowl with warm water, then gently lift out.  Dip the larger bowl in a sink full of warm water, then turn bowl upside down to release.  Put back in freezer immediately.

Step 3

Before the guests arrive, fill ice bowl with large scoops of strawberry ice cream and put back in freezer until ready to serve.  Then place bowl on plate that has a serving napkin on top to absorb the bowl as it melts.
